Tucson Saguaros

Amidst the sun-baked hills and storied valleys of the Old Pueblo, there thrives a most worthy band of ballists, known far and wide as the Tucson Saguaros. First assembled in the year 2010, these gentlemen do proudly carry on a tradition rooted deep in Arizona’s soil, where miners and railroad men once struck the ball for sport, and soldiers, both at the Presidio and at Fort Lowell, took to the diamond in their leisure.

Upon the very grounds of old Fort Lowell Park, the Saguaros now make their stand, joined in league with their fellows of the Arizona Vintage Base Ball League, and by their play do keep alive the spirit of the 19th-century game.

Led by their captain, Mr. Bradley “Barron Bounder” Bittorf, the Saguaros are a diverse company, drawn from Tucson and its neighboring communities. Each man brings his own talents and humors to the field, and while they seek victory with earnest effort, they ever preserve that gentlemanly conduct and good fellowship which mark the true character of vintage base ball.
